Holy Martyrs Church and School

Oreland, Pennsylvania

Our firm has been involved with Holy Martyrs Church and School on a series of projects that began in 1986 and continues to the present. The first project converted half of the basement space to a new Kindergarten classroom, an art room, a computer room and a library. This provided much needed program space for their school located on the second floor.

In 1993 we were asked to make the building "look more like a church". Back in the 50's when the school building was constructed, the church was to be built at a later date when the parish grew. Because growth did not occur as anticipated, the Church remained on the first floor of the school building, which had a flat roof, no steeple, industrial steel windows and no landscaping. LLRA designed a phased renovation that included a new parking lot layout with landscape, a new pitched roof and steeple, new facing materials and new windows. The new roof, steeple and landscaping are complete.

The third phase of the project is the design and installation of stained glass windows.
