Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Addition

Working within a limited area between two hospital wings, this expansion of the radiation / oncology department accommodated the installation of a Leksell Gamma Knife Unit for radiosurgery procedures along with associated patient preparation and recovery areas, treatment planning, reception and waiting. The unique Gamma Knife FastSITE Unit, designed and manufactured in Sweden, consists of three modules that make up the treatment and control rooms and shield the surrounding spaces from radiation by using steel cavity walls and ceilings filled with water. This is the first Gamma Knife FastSITE Unit installation in the world and opened for treatment in January 2004.
