A firm led by principals Joyce Lenhardt and Philip Rodgers, who have collaborated since the 1970’s, we are the successor firm of T. Norman Mansell, who established his practice in Philadelphia in 1938, served as director of the Pennsylvania Society of Architects between 1968 and 1970, and earned a regional reputation for his designs of places of worship.  Over the years, our firm has expanded its range of projects to include educational, institutional, commercial, health care, multi-unit housing and senior living facilities.  Today, we are a 13-person firm located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.  We maintain our size to be small enough to guarantee the personal involvement of the principals on every project, and simultaneously large enough to provide comprehensive service for projects of all sizes and complexities.

Lenhardt Rodgers Architects is committed to environmental responsibility.  We seek to deliver sustainable design on every project as a matter of good practice.  We use the United States Green Building Council LEED program as a model, even when LEED certification is not sought by the client.  With LEED accredited architects at the principal and staff levels, we are able to incorporate into the design process proven sustainability principles that generate value for our clients.

Much of our work has involved combinations of sensitive additions and responsible renovations.  We welcome the joint challenge of working on the design of new construction and the remodeling of existing buildings, in part because we relish opportunities to practice good stewardship of material and cultural resources on behalf of building owners . Moreover, we have found through the careful juxtaposition and integration of old and new, occupants often enjoy the sense of harmony and compatibility that we are able to achieve between parts of their environments.

An appropriate design team is organized to meet each project's needs.  The firm employs outside engineering consultants for civil engineering, landscape architecture, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering, and as the project requires, specialty consultants such as for food service or acoustical engineering.  Consultants are chosen based on their experience in a particular project type and familiarity with the locale, working under the direct supervision of the principal.

The work of Lenhardt Rodgers Architects is not characterized by an office style or “signature”.  Rather, our work is intentionally “transparent”, in that the “look” of each project tends to result from our interaction with a particular client in the context of the distinctive parameters of the client’s culture, program and site.  We believe that the resulting individuality is one of many strengths of each project we deliver.
